Anne Powell-Evans
Chair

Anne Powell-Evans

Anne Powell-Evans, a dedicated community advocate, has been a vital part of the team since 2018.

Anne Powell-Evans has dedicated her career to working extensively with children and families. Known for her grassroots approach, Anne is deeply involved in her local community and frequently organizes fundraising events at her home and garden. Since joining Topic of Cancer in 2018, she has played a crucial role in driving the charity's mission forward through her passion and commitment.
Professor Adam Frampton
Consultant General & Head of Oncology

Prof. Adam Frampton

Professor Adam Frampton, an expert in surgical oncology, joined our team in 2023.

Professor Adam Frampton is a Consultant General and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgeon at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He also serves as an Associate Professor in Surgical Oncology and the Head of Oncology at the University of Surrey. With an impressive academic background, including a BSc(Hons), MSc, PhD, MB BS, FRCS(Gen Surg), and FRSB, Adam has a strong interest in Molecular Oncology and Translational Cancer Research. His work focuses on translating research findings into tangible benefits for patients, furthering the advancement of cancer treatment. Professor Frampton has been a significant addition to Topic of Cancer, bringing his extensive expertise and dedication to our mission since 2023.
Dr Panagiotis Koliou
Consultant Medical Oncologist

Dr. Panagiotis Koliou

Dr. Panagiotis Koliou, a specialist in breast and melanoma oncology, has been a key team member since 2022.

Dr. Panagiotis Koliou is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specializing in breast and melanoma at the Royal Surrey Foundation Trust. His extensive medical journey began at the School of Medicine, University of Ioannina in Greece, where he served as a Research Fellow in the Surgery Department. In 2009, he continued his research fellowship in the Oncology Department at General Hospital Agios Georgios in Chania, Greece. Dr. Koliou completed his training at Papageorgiou General Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece.

In 2016, he advanced his career by joining University College London Hospital as a Clinical Fellow in Medical Oncology. Three years later, in 2019, he moved to the Royal Surrey in Guildford, bringing his expertise in oncology to the Trust. Since joining Topic of Cancer in 2022, Dr. Koliou has significantly contributed to our mission with his profound knowledge and dedication to advancing cancer treatment.

Anna Hunter
Gallery Owner

Anna Hunter

A seasoned fundraiser and gallery founder, Anna joined our team in 2022.

Anna Hunter holds a BSc in Economics and Politics, a PGCE, and an MA in Country House Studies. She is the founder of the award-winning Belgravia Gallery, known for its prestigious art collections. Additionally, Anna founded Seb's Project India, a charity dedicated to providing equal access to education, basic health, and livelihoods for the rural poor and marginalized in India. With a wealth of experience in fundraising and a network of high-profile connections, Anna has been a valuable asset to Topic of Cancer since joining as a trustee in 2022. Her expertise and dedication greatly enhance our mission and outreach efforts.
Alan Loryman
Treasurer

Alan Loryman

Alan Loryman, our dedicated treasurer and finance expert, has been a trustee since 2017.

Alan Loryman began his career in 1974 as a clerical officer at the Greater London Council, where he gained extensive experience in housing finance and audit. In 1985, he joined the London Borough of Tower Hamlets as an executive officer in audit and eventually became an assistant business manager in the Community Services Directorate. In this role, he supported managers in various sectors, including libraries, arts, recreation, parks, and community languages. After a 39-year career, Alan took early retirement in December 2013.

In addition to his professional work, Alan is an active member of the Dorking Camera Club and volunteers at the Oxfam Bookshop in Dorking. He enjoys theater, cinema, and exploring the local countryside with his wife and young puppy. Alan also serves as a trustee and treasurer for the Dorking and District Preservation Society, contributing to the oversight of the Dorking Museum's rebuilding costs. Since joining Topic of Cancer as a trustee and treasurer in 2017, Alan's financial expertise and passion for community service have been invaluable to our mission.

James Thurlow-Craig
Entrepreneur

James Thurlow-Craig

A successful entrepreneur, James joined our board of trustees in 2022.

James Thurlow-Craig is the founder of several successful businesses. While studying at Bournemouth University, he established a web design and marketing agency in 2011. The agency's unexpected success led James to defer his final years of study to run the business full-time. Over 13 years later, the agency continues to thrive alongside various other ventures, some of which have generated over seven figures in their first year.

James joined Topic of Cancer in 2022 as a way to give back to Professor Pandha and his team, who played a major role in the care of his late father, Mark Richards, over 15 years. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication bring valuable insights and energy to our mission.

Dave Chuter
Oesophageal Cancer Survivor

Dave Chuter

Dave Chuter, an oesophageal cancer survivor and dedicated patient advocate, joined our board of trustees in 2023.

Dave Chuter is an oesophageal cancer survivor whose life-saving oesophagectomy in 2006 marked the beginning of his journey into cancer research and advocacy. Finding a lack of local support during his treatment, Dave established a patient support group in December 2006, which continues to help patients today.

Dave has been actively involved in cancer research, participating as a PPI (Patient and Public Involvement) co-applicant in studies such as Cancer Grand Challenges, TRACERx, and TRACERx EVO. He has also held leadership roles, including chairing the Surrey, West Sussex, and Hampshire Cancer Partnership Research Group (2012-2016) and the Oesophageal Patients Association (2017-2020).

Currently, Dave serves in various roles including Patient Advocacy Advisor for the NIHR Academy, PPI Representative to the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Partnership Board, and Director of use MY data. His extensive experience and dedication have been instrumental in advancing our mission since he joined Topic of Cancer as a trustee in 2023.

Professor Hardev Pandha
Professor of Urological Oncology

Prof. Hardev Pandha

Professor Hardev Pandha, a leading clinician scientist and medical oncologist, has been with Topic of Cancer since its inception.

Professor Hardev Pandha is a distinguished clinician scientist and medical oncologist who graduated in medicine from the University of Birmingham. He trained in internal medicine and later specialized in medical oncology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School at Hammersmith Hospital, London. He earned his PhD at Imperial College within the Imperial Cancer Research Fund labs at Hammersmith.

Professor Pandha furthered his expertise as a visiting fellow at Stanford University before completing his medical oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. In 2000, he became a senior lecturer in tumor immunology and medical oncology at St George's, University of London. In 2006, he was appointed Professor of Urological Oncology at the University of Surrey.

With a remarkable career dedicated to advancing cancer treatment, Professor Pandha has been a pivotal part of Topic of Cancer since its inception. His leadership and expertise in urological oncology and immunotherapy research continue to drive our mission forward.

Dr Tony Dhillon
Consultant Medical Oncologist & Lecturer

Dr Tony Dhillon

Dr. Tony Dhillon, an expert in cancer cell signalling and liver cancers, has been a trustee since 2024.

Dr. Tony Dhillon earned his Bachelor of Science in 1994 and qualified in medicine from University College London in 1997. He obtained his PhD in cancer cell signaling from Imperial College London in 2009, funded by a CR-UK clinical training fellowship. Dr. Dhillon has been a Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital since 2014.

His main research interests lie in liver cancers, both primary and metastatic, with a particular focus on resistance mechanisms to anti-cancer treatments and biomarkers. Previously, Dr. Dhillon was a Wellcome Trust clinical fellow at the University of Oxford, where he researched gene regulation in varying chromosomal environments. He also served as a senior lecturer in oncology at Imperial College London, working on cell-free DNA in lung cancer.

Dr. Dhillon's extensive expertise and dedication to cancer research are an invaluable asset to Topic of Cancer.
